RUGBY FOOTBALL.

Two games were played on Easton Park on Saturday last in aid of the Sports Queen.

Huia (Rangdotu) Thrids met the Foxton Thrids in the early match and after an even game, the visitors emerged the victors by 3 points —a. try scored by Findlay, a local Junior who, with Taylor, filled gaps in the visitors combination. The play was of a scrambling nature, little passing being indulged in. The local Thirds have quite a number of good individual players who should weld into a good team when they attain combination. In the second game, Wanderers and Foxton Seniors met. Victory went to Foxton, 22 points to 3. Both team's were .considerably below strength, the visitors especially. Local Juniors filled the gaps. 'Considering th'at this was most of the players’ first outing, there were patches of really good football, the passing and backing up being at times first glass. In Barnes, Foxton has a half who gets the ball away nicely and defends ably. The last Foxton backs should be capable of some good play this season, as the new half is of the unselfish type. Moses appeared to advantage in a new position. Taylor used his pace to advantage in scoring several tides whilst Stevenson put in a heavy day’s work and stripped probabi> the fittest man on the field. The other backs knitted in well on attack. Andrews looks like getting right back into his best form in the pack. The visitors’ most .prominent men were Tatana, C. McDonald and a Junior Wanderer with a rare turn of speed, H. Jones. The visitors were entertained to dinner by the local team at the conclusion of the game.

The following team has been selohted to meet Shannon Seniors in a friendly game on Easton Park on Saturday next, in aid of the Sports Plnnket candidate: Backs: C. Procter, H. Taylor, G. Westwood, E. Robinson, A. Stevenson, Thompson, Barnes j forwards: J. Huff, Pine, Renata, Harrison, Andrews, H. McGregor, Moses, Hindu. Emergencies: K. Hirini, C. Anderson, J. McGregor. All players are requested to go in for training. Coach: Mr F. Robinson. ■
