CARNIVAL NOTES
A very successful -and enjoyable entertainment was held in the Oroua Doivvns hall last night in aid of the country candidate. Stalls were well patronised and novel competitions indulged in. A cleverly disguised individual had the crowd guessing a't 6d a time as to identity and sex, which turned out to be Mrs. Barron. Three ladies were successful in penetrating the mystery. The following ladies had charge of stalls: Mesdames A. Nic'holls and Funnell (produce), Gordon and Wilson Scott (ice cream and sweets), Hunter (tea rooms), H. Sbailer (bran tub). Mr. V. Bird Won the cake, Mr. Winter the goose -and K. Cotton brush and comb. Mrs. Fergusson and her helpers are to be congratulated upon the effort. 'The children’s elocutionary competition was won'by Is’obel Thomson and Rita Sdmnr. The other Competitors were Lorna Robaiul, Iris Procter, Lionel Funnell and Katie Denich. Each competitor received a prize. Mrs. Nieol supervised the competitions. On Thursday, 28tli inst., the Country Queen Committee will hold a shop day in Main Street. Gifts of produce, cakes, etc., are solicited.
