CLARIDGE SWIMS THE HARBOUR.
A. FINE PERFORMANCE. Wellington Harbour was conquered on Sunday, the attempt of C. Ciaridge, of the Maranui Surf and Life-Saving Club, to swim from Eastbourne Fei-ry Wharf (City) /to Rona Bay proving successful. 'Ciaridge covered the distance, approximately seven miles, in just under 3J hours. For the greater part of the journey the conditions were against him. Showing no signs of fatigue, Ciaridge increased his pace slightly over the last hundred yards. He walked, ashore at Rona Bay aimid thunderous cheers, at 3.39 p.m. An hour after his landing Olaridge !was motored to Day’s Bay, where from the pavilion the Mayor of Eastbourne (Mr. JL M. Jones) accorded him a welcome. In conclusion, Mr. Jones said that so far- as he could see there was nothing in the swimming world Ciaridge Imight not accomplish. Three ringing cheers were given for Ciaridge and his trainer, Mr. F. Rawlinson.
