GOVERNMENT LOAN TO MAN IN HOSPITAL.

LIVELY MEETING OF CREDITOR'S. Christchurch, Last Night. The allegation of gross lack of proper care on the part of the late Government in granting a State Advances loan to a man ill in hospital, with no money and practically no prospects, was made at a lively meeting of the creditors of Leonard Owen Bellette, builder. Bankrupt, it was alleged, had been granted a loan to build a house on insufficient security. He had paid no interest for two years, no rates for three years and had incured liabilities for supplies. He showed a deficiency of £4l 11s, ,but the Assignee informed the creditors that the true deficiency would be about £BOO. It was alleged Bellette had made repeated promises to bis creditors, which were not fulfilled and that the generous treatment accorded him .by the Government had resulted in the creditors suffering losses they might otherwise have avoided. A motion was carried that the matter be referred to the Crown Solicitor for investigation.
