conclusion of the meeting and ex™ tended the Centre’s .sympathy to W. Hirini who met with an accident some days ago. The Hirini brothers, he said, had delighted crowds with the game way in ,which they contested various events. They were good sports and fine swimmers. To Miss B. Harford (Feilding) he extended the Centre’s congratulations. After annexing the ladies’ championship that evening Miss Harford held all the championships the Manawatu Centre had to offer. Her success was due, in a large measure, to the training she received frojm Mr. H. Parsonage, her coach. In conclusion 'Mr. Campbell congratulated the local Club on the excellent manner in which it had conducted this carnival and on the prompt manner in which the events had been got off. Mr. H. Hutchins .(President) briefly returned thanks and expres - sed the local Club’s appreciation of the large entries they had received. At the the sports, visitors and performers were en ; tertained to supper at Walls’ when Mr. H. Hutchins presented the trophies won. Apologies for absence frojm the function were regd from Messrs J. Linlklater M.P., and M. E. Perreau (Mayor). Mr. Campbell (President of the Centre) expressed the opinion that the meeting was the most successful held this season.

Campbell (P.N.); call stewards: Messrs H. Hutchins and O. Doel; touch line stewards: Messrs <O. Procter, T. Chipper, O. Doel, and G. Alexander’; handieappers: Messrs D. R. Barron, If. Hutchins and O. Collier. A special word of praise is due to the secretary (Mr. D. R. Barron) whose efforts were responsible in a great degree for the success of the meeting. To the handieappers (Messrs D. R. Barron, H. Hutchins and O. Doel) the congratulations ot the Centre on their fine handicapping was extended and the general fully endorsed this appreciation. The meeting was a record for dose finishes.
The local swimmers were strong favourites and received well-merit-ed applause for their very fine efforts. W. Hirini was missed from the ranks of the local exponents of the art. W. Harrison showed that he had lost none of his old time style and if he goes to the Palmerston North meeting this week he will make Claridge extend himself to his fullest to save himself from possible defeat. ®. Ball, G. Shaw and T. Fuller are all worthy of note and are rapidly establishing themselves amongst the foremost swimlmers in the district, while Miss M Gay is holding her own among the girls’ events. Foxton’s flying squadron proved its worth on Saturday night and, with a little concerted practice, should be hard to beat.
