ASTOUNDING STORY OF CRIME.
WOMAN TO GAOL, BOY TO - WERAROA. Christchurch, March 7. An astounding story of crime and incitement to 'crime was revealed in the children’s Court this morning, when a seventeen-year-old boy pleaded guilty to eighteen charges of theft involving £IOO, and his aunt Elsie Martha Dennis Wright, pleaded guilty to four charges of receiving goods stolen by the child knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. The (circumstances outlined Iby the police revealed that the boy was a daring thief, and that his aunt egged hi|m on in crimes and benefited iby them. Wright Avas sentenced to six months’ imprisonment Avith hard labour, and the boy Avas placed under the care of the superintendent of child welfare Avith a recommendation that he be sent to Weraroa. The police said: “Mrs. Wright is the boy’s aunt. The boy has been stealing- for her. He told his parents that he Avas at work, but every morning at seven he AVent to his aunt’s house and used it as a base for liis operations. He would go back to his oavu home at about 6 o'clock. Each week lie Avould give his parents ten shillings, allegedly Avages, but in reality the proceeds of some robbery.” The Magistrate said: This avoman is dangerous in any co|mmunity, and should be put out of the Avay. She is sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, with hard labour.”
