NOXIOUS WEEDS.
• SEEDS IN RIVER METAL. “The noxious weeds are getting a fair hold,” said Mr. F. Maul at Monday’s meeting of the Manawatu ■branch of the New Zealand Fanners’ Union. The .county councils, lie said, were drawing metal from ri-ver-beds, and this inietal contained in it seeds of- noxious weeds. It was left alongside the road for the plants to flourish, flower and seed. He suggested that letters be written to Oroua, Mjanaiwatu, Horowhenua, Kairanga* and Hutt ■County Councils asking if the roadmen could cut the weeds before they went to seed. Mr. Gloyn seconded the motion. Government inspectors, he said, could not possibly hope to deal with (lie noxious weeds as their areas were too large, and the union should push the counties to appoint inspectors.
After further discussion the motion was put to the meeting and carried.
