LIFE-SAVING
DEMONSTRATION AT THE . LOjCAL SEASIDE. BY THE MARANUI SURF CLUB. /There was a large attendance at the local Ocean beach on 'Sunday afternoon to witness ,a demonstration of resuscitation methods and life-saving, by a team from the Maranui Surf Club (Wellington), the champions of the Dominion, and holders of the Nelson Shield. The visit was arranged by the Mananvatu Centre of the Royal Life Saving Society with the object of bringing its work before the public and emphasising the need for the provision of life-saving facilities at the local seaside. The pai'ty were met on arrival by the Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau) and Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., chairman of the Foxton Harbour Board, and accorded a hearty welcome. The team gave exhibitions of both land and water drill. Mr. W. C. Collier, president of the Manawatu Centre of the Royal Life Saving Society, explained to the onlookers the methods of resuscitation employed and various other points in the land drill. The .weather was favourable and the demonstration in the surf by the teahn was watched with considerable interest. A collection was taken up to assist in defraying the expenses. The team and visiting officials were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr. Kelleheu As a result of the visit a public meeting is to be called to form a local life-saving branch.
