TEMPERANCE WALL CHARTS

ARE TIIEY .MISLEADING? At yesterday’s meeting of the Wlanganui Education Board an offer was received from the Education department to supply wall charts prepared »by the N.Z. Alliance for use in the schools. Mr. M. 11. Oram said it seemed to be a one-sided proposition. He would look with a great, deal of suspicion on anything prepared by the Alliance. In the past, it had been most misleading.

Mr. J. K. Hornblow said it was manifestly unfair of Mr. Oram to made such a statement as the charts were the work of medical scientists. There was also misleading propaganda on the other side. The chairman said he saw no reason to object to charts which had been acceptable in the past. Would Mr. Oram agree to charts supplied against temperance? Mr. J. S. Tingey thought the material prepared by the Alliance was very reliable and in this lie was supported by Mr. J. Aitken, who said the other side had not put anything in the schools.

Mr. Oram: They soon will, if they are asked. It was finally decided to hold the matter over until the next meeting and to obtain specimen charts in the meantime.
