RESIDENT GORED BY BULL.

INJURIES OF A SERIOUS NATURE. A well-known local resident, Mr. William Aldridge snr., was badly gored by a Jersey bull on his farm, Avenue Road, shortly before noon on Sunday, and now lies in a serious condition at his home. In conversation ‘with a son, Mr. J. Aldridge, our representative was informed that at about a quarter to twelve on Sunday morning Mr. Aldridge went over to a trough in one of his paddocks to draw water for his cows. He had completed this process and was returning to the house and had just reached the gate which he was about to close when the bull rushed up from behind and knocked him down. Mr. Aldridge who is an elderly man, 71 years of age, was unable to do anything and there was no one about to assist him. He grasped the hull ,by the hornsi and hung on but the animal gored him about the arms and body and knelt on his chest finally rolling him under the fence and out of its reach. Despite his injuries Mr. Aldridge managed .to make his way hack to the house covering a distance o'f about a -quarter.of a mile, when he collapsed into a chair. The whole family was out with the exception of a daugh-ter-in-law, Mrs. G. AJdridge, who gave Mr. Aldridge what succour she could and summoned the doctor. A medical examination disclosed the fact that Mf. Aldridge had suffered a badly lacerated light arm, while all the ribs on] one side of his ches't were crushed in, the other side being badly crushed as well. Despite the serious nature of his, injuries, Mr. Aldridge refused to enter the hospital, preferring to he treated in his own home.

Latest reports of his condition this afternoon' are to the effect that lie is still seriously ill hut showing signs of improvement. Mr. Aldridge is well known locally having for many years been a farmer within the borough. The bull appears to be a very quiet animal but on two previous occasions JV£r. Aldridge had been chased by the animal.
