CONSTABLE HAMPERED.
CHARGE AGAINST RESIDENTS. Auckland, February 15. A sequel to an extraordinary ogcurrence at St. Helices ,Bay on New Year’s Eve took place at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when eight residents of that popular seaside resort were charged with disorderly conduct. . It appeared that Constable Collins, as the result of a collision 'between two motor vehicles, was making the customary inquiries when his action was resented by a crowd which gathered around him, and it was alleged that they threatened to throw him into the sea. It was staled that it was only through the forbearance and tact of ’.the constable that something serious did not result. Alexander Black was fined £3 and costs, and John Black and J. Thompson were each fined £2 and costs for disorderlf behaviour. The charges against the other five men l were dismissed.
