ROSS SEA WHALING.
CHANCE FOR BRITISH AIEN. 'Speaking at a luncheon in London recently Rear-Admiral E. R. G. R. Evans referred to the great possibilities for Britain in the .Southern Seas whaling industry. “The founders of the whaling industry throughout the world,” he said, “were British seamen.” There is every reason why we should attempt to tap this industry and share the enormous profits that are being made. The Ross Sea is teeming with whales, and the adjacent oceans are untouched.
“I do not imagine there is any chance of the industry in the Southern Seas failing for the next 20 years. Whaling offers a fine opportunity for the employment of British capital and work in the shipbuilding yards. Also there is a very fine chance for the employment of ex-naval offilcers and men in the industry. “We have sat still while the Norwegians have virtually wrested from us the whaling industry, which is bringing them millions of pounds.”
