POISON GAS WAR
CONDEAINED BY GERMAN PROFESSOR. Frankfurt, January 4. -Madame Naima Sahlborn presided over the International Conference on modern methods of warfare convoked by the liiternational Women’s League for Peace and Liberty. * The conference specially gave attention to the use of poison gas and the protection of civilians. Many international scientists and military experts were present. Professor Lewin, of Berlin, condemned poison gas as cowardly. Man was defenceless because there was no antidote. So its use was repugnant and must be regarded as a crime against humanity. His description w r as so bonifying that many women left the hall in tears. Professor Macartney (Britain) thought it impossible to control the chemical industry and prevent the manufacture of poison gas for warfare. The only satisfactory method was to attack all forms of warfare and endeavour to remove the war spirit.
