SACKING FROM FLAX.
MANUFACTURE AT DUNEDIN. Dunedin, January 7. The establishment in Dunedin of phormimn fibre-spinning and weaving .mills for the manufacture of sacking is more concrete shape. The finished material now shows that the difficulty of converting the Dominion’s native fibre into i\ light-weight, soft spinnable substance suitable for cominercial use has been overcome. It is understood that the'processes have been patented, and that plans for the layout of the proposed mill are now completed. The damp atniosphere of Dunedin should be eminently suitable for spinning and weaving, since the district has'an abundance of water, coal, and cheap power. The fact that the raw material is now grown in the immediate neighbourhood is more than compensated for.
