In the Manawatu Tennis tournament, which opened at Palmerston North yesterday, G. WJills (Taranaki) defeated C. Procter (the local 5 epresentative) 6 —o, 6 —l, thus j eliminating him from the men’s singles. In the men’s handicap singles Gosnell (20) defeated Procter (8) 60 —45. In the ladies’ singles Miss P. McMarray (ree. 10) suffered defeat at the hands of Miss Stevens (ser.) 50—48. Miss J. Mi-Murray (rec. 18) defeated Miss Brabant (rec. 5) 51— 49. In the ladies’ doubles Miss P. and J. McMurray (ree. 16) were defeated by Misses McMullian and Mor-' rison (rec. 15) 50 —47.- V In the Manawatu Championship men’s singles Procter defeated C. Robertson 6 —3, 6 —3. Play was continued to-day. -
