MANAWATU RACING CLUB MEETING. Unfavourable weather was experienced yester.day for the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s Christmas meeting. The attendance was very large, but the totalisator receipts were below that of last year, the takings yesterday being £43,999 as against £54,647 for the first, day of the holiday fixture last year. 'The Cup was won by an Star Area, and only two favourites got home out of the eight races, the dividends for the day being mostly large. Tararua Hack Handicap, 9 furlongs!—King Quex 1, Rosy Mar 2, Henna 3. Time 1.58. ■ Manawatu Cup, 1J miles. —Star Area 1, Seatown 2, Mt. Heath 3. Time 2,37 2-5. Nursery Handicap, 5 furlongs. — Clever 1, First Money 2, Praeda 3. Time 1.2 4-5. Giffies Hack Handicap, 6 furlongs.—Borsalene 1, Veronese 2, First Ruler 3. Time 1.16 1-5.
