PERSONAL.
The <Chief Justice, Sir Charles Skerretf, anticipates being able to resume his duties in the Supreme Court in February. The death occurred at Pahiatua on Monday last of Mr. Albert Martin, a very old and highly respected resident of that town, at the age of 89 years; The late Mr. Martin came to New Zealand in the ship “Duke of Portland” in the year 1855, landing at Wellington, from where he subsequently went to the Wairarapa and assisted in the survey of Greytown and Masterton, and later to Otaraia, (Martinborough). After his marriage to Miss Cropper, who came out to Nelson with her parents in the “Martha Ridgeway” in ’42, (the late Mr. Martin eventually settled in Wellington, where he was employed by the Government. Later he established his home iin Pahiatua, where he lived for many years and up to the time of his death. There were 13 children of the marriage, eleven of whom are still living, in addition to deceased’s widow, together with 37 grand-children, and 14 greatgrandchildren. Mrs; ,H. Berry, of Foxton, is a grand-daughter of the late Mr. Martin.
