FULL HOUR'S DAYLIGHT.
ORIGINAL PROPOSAL HAS STRONG SUPPORT IN NEW PARLIAMENT. There is a probability of a majority in the new House favouring the enactment of the Hon. T. K. Sidey’s original summertime measure, providing for advancing the clock one hojp» in summer. This has been ascertained by the careful checking of the candidates’ opinions before the election. Advocates of the reform are already busy in Parliamentary circles as the present measure expires in a few months, and it would need to be re-enacted. However, conditions are favourable-to introducing the full measure of summertime, and those favouring this course in Parliament will be called together this session to decide who will take charge of the Summertime Bill in the Lower House. There are" 32 ’ members of the House of Representatives definitely pledged to secure the full hour of summertime, and between 20 and 30 not finally committed, but of whom only eight will be required to secure the majority for the permanent adoption of the original measure. Its author is now leader ■ of the Legislative Council, and if it appears eventually as a Government measui’e he would no doubt introduce it first in the Council. The strongest opponent of daylight saving in the old Parliament, Mr. Glenn, was defeated in the election by Mr. Hogan, who is understood not to be committed against summertime.
