Mr. Len Freeman, who some years ago was licensee of Whyte’s Hotel, has opened a restaurant in Cuba Street, Wellington. Miss O. V. .Fraser, for thirteen years on the staff of the Wanganui Education Board, has resigned her position and is returning to her home in Foxton. The death occurred at Pahiatua last week of Mr. W. A. Sedcole. Mr. .Sedcole was closely identified with the pioneering days and with various institutions in the district..

At the conclusion of business at last night’s Borough Council meeting the Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau) made reference to the fact that their esteemed fellow Councillor, Mr.. C. H- Spring, had, last Thursday, celebrated his 92nd birthday. They had hoped that he would be present at the meeting that evening as they had intended making him a small presentation in celebration of the event. Cr. The photo, was a good likeness of the deceased gentleman. .Cr. M. H. Walker referred to his association with the late Mr. Thynne some 40 years ago. Mr. Thynne had been a most energetic citizen. For a number of years he had been chairman of the local School Committee besides being .Mayor for a considerable time. On two occasions he had unsuccessfully contested the Manawatu seat for Parliamentary honours, once against the late Mr. Izard and on the other occasion against the late Mr. F. Pirani. The late Mr. Thynne had been one of Foxton’s most prominent citizens. Cr. Thompson endorsed the previous speakers remarks and on his motion it was decided to forward Mrs. Thynne a letter of thanks for donating the photo, v
