FIRE INSURANCE PREMIUMS.
— COUNCIL SUGGESTS REDUCTION. At last night’s Borough Council meeting a motion was submitted that as the fire insurance premiums are still the same as they were before the waterworks were established, the Fire Underwriters Association be asked to reduce the premiums in respect of that portion of the Borough served by water mains and fire hydrants. The Mayor (Mr. Perreau), said that a reduction in the premiums would be a good . thing for the town, but before it would be possible lie understood t{hat Foxton would have to have a stipendiary brigade. The present brigade was very efficient and the plant quite up-to-date and he did not think that a permanent’ brigade should be necessary before a Reduction could be made. Cr. Wfalker did not think the request for a reduction in premiums would be successful.
The Mayor said he had placed the matter before the Fire Board some time ago and the chairman had informed him that a permanent brigade was necessary before a reduction in premiums could be made. It was decided to endeavour to have a reduction brought about and the motion was carried.
