Riddell, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of attempting to commit suicide. Sub-Inspector Lander stated that in April last accused had jumped from a balcony at the back of a city hotel on to a concrete yard. The drop to the yard was about twenty feet, and as a.result of her actions accused injured both her legs and her s'pine. .Since then she had been in the Public Hospital. When interviewed, she admitted that she had intended to take her life as she was worried. 'The Magistrate said that the injuries accused had received had been a sufficient punishment, and suggested that in future she might keep in touch with the Probation Officer, who might be able to help her.
