FLIGHT ACROSS THE TASMAN.

AUSTRALIA’S CONGRATULATIONS. Sydney, Sept. 13. The Prime Minister, Mr. S. M. Bruce, the State Premier, Mr. Bavin, and the Aero Club have despatched cables of heartiest congratulations to the Southern Cross aviators, whose Tasman achievement has thrilled the Australians as much as the New Zealanders. One of the newspaper’s bill board reads: “Smithy triumphs. Anderson crashes.” The Sun newspaper publishes an article praising the fliers, and then asks why the Stat eGovernment has not yet handed over its cheque to the Pacific conquerors. Mr. Bavin was interviewed with regard to the Sun’s article. He disclaimed any intention to repudiate the Government’s promise of a reward. The fact was that another aviator had claimed to be a partner in the Smith-Ulm Pacific venture, and as. soon as tliel egal difficulty with regard to his claim was the Government would honour its obligation.
