MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Manawatu County Council met at Bauson on Tuesday, Cr. W. E. Barber (chairman) presiding. There were also present Crs. H. 11. Hunt, J. Boyce, D. W. Reid, W. E. Pearce, J. H. Perrett and J. McKelvie. CORRESPONDENCE. The folloAving correspondence was dealt Avith:— From the Public Works Department, gKing authority for a Government subsidy up to £SOO for expenditure oil the formation and metalling of Pvkes road.—lt Avas resolved to offer congratulations to the settlers Imng on the road on the success .of the negotiations and also for their individual effort over a period of years to keep the road in order. From the Public Works Department, foi’Avarding particulars as to the granting of subsidies to local bodies for the relief of unemployed. —Received. From the Main Higlnvays Board, authorising the purchase of additional road making machinery.— Received. From R. A. Wilson, Bulls, offering to lease the ferry reserve at Foxton containing 44 acres for £1 per annum. —Accepted. RATE ROLL ALTERATIONS. The folloAving alterations were made oil the rate roll: —R. W. G. Hanson to Mrs. M. J. Webby, section 66 Tangimoana extension. Peter Braik to Mrs. M. H. Wilson, section 77, Tangimoana extension. Mrs. J. M. Phillips to F. L. McKinnon, part 2, section 37, Sandon. L. M. Frecklington to J. C. McCutehan, sections 183, 184, and 185 Carnarvon. T. A. Harwood to l!\ G. Martin, section 13s, Kopane Settlement. SANSON TRAMWAY. The traimvay manager reported on the Avorking of the traniAvay for the month of August. The chief items of traffic for the month were: —Grain 10J tons; minerals and manure, 3224 tons; general merchandise, 69:] tons; stock, 8 trucks; metal, 174 trucks; eggs, 169 crates; timber, 8,450 sup. feet. Fares amounted to £1 1/9. The accounts slioav a debit balance of £3O 6s 6d for the month’s working. During the present month the Westport Coal Company has. arranged to ship coal to Foxton and he had arranged to take 50 tons. If sufficient support is given the company is prepared to make regular shipments to Foxton. —Received TRAFFIC INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The County traffic inspector (Mr W. Berry) reported as folloAvs: —A fair number of stock have been found wandering. One horse Avas sent to the Foxton pound from Himatangi. Several informations Avould be laid against persons for failing to cut gorse on the roadside. Tavo men Avere sent to the Bulls bridge during the busy hours on Wednesday last (Marton race day) to direct the traffic passing over the bridge. During the month building permits to the value of £825 v.'ere issued and fees amounting to £2 collected. —Received.
