BOXING.

On Monday evening two local amateur boxers, Thompson (Foxton) and Smith (Moutoa) participated in the Rongotea tournament. Their respective bouts were as follows : W. Dalziell, Shannon (lOst. 41bs) v. W. Thompson, Foxton (lOst 61bs.). —'The former was too clever, and the fight was uneven, Thompson receiving a smashing blow to the chin, leaving him staggering. The referee called them off at the conclusion of the second round. Con Casey, Palmerston North (9st. lOlbs.) v. H. Smith, Foxton (Sst lllbs.). —Smith had the advantage of reach and landed some good lefts to the face. Smith was the aggressor throughout, and although Casey used his right effectively Smith was the superior boxer of the two and was declared the winner.
