FLAX MILLS HOLD-UP.

CONFERENCE WITH PRIME MINISTER. The conference convened by the Prime Minister and Minister for Labour between the flaxmill owners and workers, to see if some basis could be arrived at between the parties to end the present hold-up of the industry, was held at Wellington yesterday. The Flaxmillers’ Association was represented by Messrs C. II .Speirs, -J. Moir and 11. Berry and the Union by Messrs P. T. Robinson, Anderson and Downes.

The conference, was nojj/open to the Press, but it is understood that the discussions laster throughout the day and certain proposals were drafted which will be further considered in order to effect a compromise satisfactory to the parties.

Whatever may be the result of the conference between mill-owners and workers in connection with the hold-up, all concerned, and that includes the general public, are indebted to the Prime'Minister for bringing the parties together in a round-table talk. The action of the Prime Minister indicates an earnest endeavour to close up the gaps in the unemployment ranks and to promote a better understanding between employer and employee.
