TRANS-TASMAN AIR MAIL.

GERMAN COMPANY’S PROPOSAL. London, August 24. A German company’s proposal to the Commonwealth to subsidise an Australia-New Zealand flying boat service has aroused interest in London. Imperial Airways, Ltd., states that it has always understood that Australian companies desired control at their own end of AngloAustralia and New Zealand services. If Australian companies are not prepared to avail themselves of any Government subsidy offering, there would be no difficulty in London in organising an all-British service from Australia and New Zealand and Tasmania.

Any claim that flying boats possess a cruising range of 200 miles, carrying fifteen passengers, can easily be tested by standard practice in Britain and Europe, where -’planes with fifteen passengers or equivalent freight have to refuel every 500 or 600 miles. Some of the longer German routes carry fewer passengers at higher fares.
