DISTINGUISHED VISITORS.
- -•* —- ENTERTAINMENT IN NEW ZEALAND.Replying to Labour criticism in the House of Representatives on Friday night, the acting-Minister of Internal - Affairs (Hon. Sir Maui Pomare) defended the action of the Government in its entertainment of distinguished visitors to the. country. That, he said, had always been done, and if by any remote chance the Labour Party got on to the Government Benches they would not cut it out. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. H. E. Holland): Certainly, they would not. The Minister: “I am very glad to know it.” The Labour Party has complained about the Government entertaining the Bishop of London. They did not complain, however, about entertaining a distinguished gentleman from Scotland, the Rev. Sir James Barr. (Laughter). Why should there be any difference? What was sauce for the goose was sauce for the gander.
