HEENEY’S PLANS.
COMING TO NEW ZEALAND. New York, August 1. Admitting that he had received an offer from an Australian source for a series of fights in Australia, Tom Ileeney told an interviewer definitely that he would not accept. He explained, “in the first place I am.going to New Zealand simply on a holiday, and do not wish to fight. Besides, I have to he back here for a fight in November, so I shall not have time to go to Australia.” Heeney’s date of departure is not yet settled. He is considering motoring across the continent to San Francisco, leaving there on August S, but he may change his plans.
ASPIRANTS FOR. THE CHAM- ’ PIONSHIP. 9 Vancouver, August 1. The “Vancouver Sun” states that Tex Rickard, with an eye to the box office receipts, will undoubtedly again interview Dempsey in order to try and induce him to appear once more, following on motion picture contracts which will occupy him for the next three months. Luis Firpo cabled to-day from Buenos Aires stating that he would come for any elimination series. Risko, Sharkey, and other secondraters will also claim recognition. New York, August 1. Following Tunney’s retirement, Tex Rickard begins a heavy-weight elimination tournament in September to determine .the next champion. The first bout may be between Jack Sharkey, of Boston, and Ivnute Hansen, the Wisconsin Dane, who knocked out Phil Scott in one round.
