MRS. KOERBIN TO DO THREE MONTHS IN GAOL.
Wellington, Last Night. Marion ICoerbin, aged 43, Avho Avas found guilty in the Supreme Court fol* attempting to administer poison Avith the intention to injure or annoy her husband, Herbert Koerbin, was sentenced by Sir William Sim this morning to three months’ in gaol. Mr. Sievwright pointed out that the jury had made, a strong recommendation to mercy. The prisoner had an unblemished record, and had been a good mother to her children. A severe sentence as a deterrent Avas hardly necessary from the public point of vieAV, as the crime Avas not a common one.
His Honour said that it was fortunate for the prisoner that the jury felt justified in acquitting her on the more serious charge. He desired to give effect to the jury’s recommendation as far as possible. It seemed clear that the prisoner Avould have to undergo a term of imprisonment. In fixing the term lie Avould take into consideration the fact that she had been in custody since her arrest on June 26.
