WARNING OF FLOODS.
BY RADIO AND TELEPHONE. This spring the farmers along the ManaAvatu and Oroua Rivers will have a much greater amount of warning of the rivers rising due to the efforts of the ManawatuOroua River Board. The neAvs will be sent by both radio and telephone.
Electric flood rise indicators are to hand and at Thursday’s meeting the board instructed the engineer, Mr. F. C- Hay, to push on their installation at the ManaAvatu and Oroua Bridges. These will be read at the Post Office and the information as to the movement of the rivers thus gained AA'ill be disseminated by telephone, while arrangements have also been made to supply the press Avith the information.
In addition, both the NeAV Zealand Broadcasting Company (per 2YA, Wellington) and the Manawatu Radio Club have promised to assist in apprising the farmers when floods are indicated. The board passed votes of thanks to both these bodies for their offer of co-operation.
