MOUTOA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent) RIFLE CLUB.
The Rifle Club is now a wellestablished institution. New members are constantly joining up and the increase has been so great that another new rifle had to be purchased. Further equipment and accessories have greatly increased the facility and speed of the shoots. The telescope is a great help for “spotting.” The electric lighting is now permanently installed and is most satisfactory. The butts have also been widened and deepened considerably.
The shooting is most encouraging, as steady improvement is noted all round. It is hoped that very soon the Club will be able to fully extend the capabilities of a visiting team. A regular shoot is held on Tuesday evenings from 7 o’clock. Anyone interested will be heartily welcomed, and all information as to joining the Club can be readily obtained from the Club captain .and secretaries.
CESSATION OF POSTAL
SERVICE,
Moutoa residents are suffering considerable inconvenience - through the cessation of the postal service. It is hoped that some arrangement will be speedily made, whereby mail may be obtained and posted without travelling to Foxton or Shannon to do so. A petition for rural delivery received many signatures, and would undoubtedly be the most suitable service, unless a central post office could be obtained. There are apparently no hopes of the. latter event taking place. RELIGIOUS. The Rev. Edmondson held a church service in the Moutoa Hall on Sunday last. The attendance was not very good, due doubtless to the bad weather. A further service will be held on Sunday, 22nd July, at 2.30 pan. A special invitation is extended to the children of the district, as well as to the adult residents. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT.
The School Committee have now held three out of the series of euchre touimaments, and in each case the response was good. The Committee especially desire to thank those patrons from Foxton and district who support them so well.
It is to be noted that the tournaments are now held in the large schoolroom, where conditions are much more enjoyable owing to the heating facilities. The Committee have incurred considerable expense in installing electric light in both rooms, but it is money well spent. The next tournament will be held on Thursday, 2Gth July, when a large attendance is anticipated. NEW RESIDENTS. Two new residents in Moutoa are Messrs 11. J. Shailer and I. 11. Pentecost, who replace Messrs T. Tregell and C. Osborne respectively. The school has benefited to the extent of four pupils. DAIRYING. Most of the farms in the district have one or two early calves by now, and more in quite a few instances. ANNUAL BALL. Arrangements for the annual ball on August 3rd are running smoothly, and it is confidently predicted that all previous balls will be eclipsed. A limited number of invitations are still obtainable from the secretaries, and may be obtained on application to same (care Moutoa Hall Committee).
