RESOLUTIONS AT .COUNTIES'* CONFERENCE. Hamilton, Yesterday. Resolving that the cost of maintenance of rural roads should be provided by the motor fuel tax without recourse to rates the Auckland Rural Counties Association decided to urge the Government immediately to adopt this system respect to main highways and gradually to apply the same to all rural roads. The Conference also resolved that all arterial main highways should be nationalised. “That for the purpose of preserving the surface of roads including main highways,” the Conference is of opinion that statutory power be given County Councils to make by-laws restricting the speed of motor vehicles.
