AN ANNIVERSARY.

The Prime Minister referring to the anniversary of the signing of Magna Charta, which took place yesterday, said that, the great charta was the basis of the freedom and liberty of the English speaking peoples throughout the world and which forms such an important link between the citizens of the British Empire and of the great American Republic. “In this age of democracy, I think it is particularly appropriate that our ancestors’ first successful assertion of their rights of liberty should be fittingly remembered and I heartily commend the movement to ensure that this day shall not pass unnoticed in future especially by the younger generation of New Zea.ianders.”
