DAYLIGHT SAVING
FRUITGROWERS APPROVE. Wellington, Last Night. Delegates to the Fruitgrowers Federation were unanimous yesterday a( their annual conference that daylight saving was of very material benefit to them. A remit to the opposite effect was decisively rejected. MEDICAL APPROVAL. VOTING OF DOCTORS.
At the annual conference of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, held at Hamilton in February, a letter was received from Mr. T. K. Sidey, M.P., asking for an expression of opinion on the part of the association as to the effect of summer time upon the health of the community, with particular reference to the health of women and children. It was resolved to refer the question to the several divisions of the branch, with a request that they should each lake a referendum on the subject. The replies of the medical profession throughout the Dominion were considered at a meeting of the British Medical Association held at Wfellington on Thursday. Sir Donald M'Gavin who presided, declared, after reading the replies from the branches and analysing the voting, that “a large majority of medical men in New Zealand approved of summer time, and recommended the continuance of the Act.” Some members were of opinion that the period during which the Act had been in operation was too short to enable a definite statement to be made as to its effect on the health of the community; but it might fairly he assumed in these cases that on general grounds the opinion was favourable to summer time. The council agreed to inform Mr. Sidey that tho large majority of replies of medical men favoured summer time.
