RAILWAY CROSSING SMASH.

BENZINE-LADEN LORRY. OCCUPANTS’ MIRACULOUS ESCAPE. The South bound express from New Plymouth crashed into a lorry heavily laden with case benzine at the West Street railway crossing, Palmerston North, on Thursday afternoon, the spot where a number of accidents have already occurred. . The lorry was smashed and caught lire, but the two occupants, Ken Iversall, of Palmerston North, and Frederick Lester, of Auckland, miraculously escaped from the wreckage. Both are suffering from shock, but a hospital report states that both are now improving. The train was delayed over an hour until the tire brigade smothered the flames and the line was made safe. The lorry, the property of Kersall, was utterly consumed, while only a few cases of benzine were saved.
