BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY.
SOCIAL FUNCTION. The annual meeting of the local branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society took the form of a social gathering in All Saints’ Schoolroom on Tuesday afternoon. Representatives of the various churches were present, including the Revs. Wi. H. Walton (Anglican), W. H. Nicholas (Presbyterian), and E. Edmondson (Methodist). Mrs. F. Robinson (president), and Mrs. Walton extended a welcome to those present. The Rev. W. 11. Walton referred to the work of the society and the necessity for assistance from the Churches. He stated that the amount subscribed by Foxton last year fell far short of several of the smaller country districts,. Mrs. Robinson explained that owing to the difficult times experienced in this district the local committee had not thought it advisable to send out collectors. During the afternoon Mesdames Doel arid L. Bullard contributed vocal items. Competitions were won by Mrs. Edmondson and Mrs. Cecil Robinson.
Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the various congregations.
The amount contributed totalled about £8 which amount it is hoped will be increased by another £2.
