HOSPITAL BOARD EXPENDITURE.
PALMERSTON BOROUGH COUNCIL’S PROTEST. NOT SUSTAINED BY FOXTON COUNCIL. At last night’s Borough Council meeting a letter was read from the Palmerston North Borough Council asking the local body’s cooperation in urging upon the Minis-> ter of Health to have a commission set up to enquire into the building policy of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, and deploring the heavy capital expenditure of that body and alleging unnecessary and wasteful expenditure. The ToAvn Clerk said that the Foxton Hospital rate avus not very high. The Levin Council had received the letter. Cr. Walker said the Hospital Board should knoAv the requirements of the district. The hospi-v tal Avas a growing institution and its demands Avere growing every year. The Council should not support any veto on the Board for putting up new buildings as the Board would not put them up unless they were necessary. The Mayor said the Board had done Avonderful Avork. The Council could not oppose the Hospital Board’s scheme even if it were opposed to it after Avliat the Minister had said. He suggested the letter' be received. Cr. Ross pointed out that the Hospital Board’s district extended from Otaki to near Hunterville —a big area, and the Board Jiad to meet the requirements of such a district. ' The letter Avas received.
