BACK FROM SAMOA

NEW ZEALAND POLICE,

BAD CLIMATE AND LONG CENTIPEDES.

Auckland, June 11. “The best sight I ever saw’ in my life was old Rangitoto showing up to-day through the rain,” said one of the Auckland police who returned from Samoa to-day. Some time ago six young Auckland constables went to Samoa to keep law and order in that unrestful country, and three of them have now returned, coming back by the Tofua this afternoon. The Auckland constables said they could not talk of the official side of their visit, but of the personal and social they said quite a lot. “It’s a great place, but it has a rotten climate and centipedes a foot long,” said one of the constables. “Give me Auckland every time! Plenty of sport down there,” he added. “The football season is just over. Wle had a few T games and I can tell you they play better football than you see in Aulkland.” lldence in one another ana confidence in our machine, and w r e won through. I cannot describe my feelings when from the sky I saw Australia once again. I can only t say that lam very happy and very thankful. My comrades, Australian and American, join with me in expressing thanks and greetings to the people of Australia. We have been given a wonderful reception. All I can say is that if w r e have done anything to place Australia more prominently on the map, and if w r e have brought Australian flying before the world, them I am well repaid.”
