NOXIOUS WEEDS.
LOCAL BODIES’ RESPONSIBILITY,.
The question of local bodies being made responsible for the destruction of noxious weeds on all lands and roads under their control was put before the inter-pro-vincial conference of the Farmers’ Union at Feilding on Thursday by the Greytown and Rangiotu branches and accorded support. The president, Mr. O. P. Lynch, said that in his district the controlling local body was the greatest offender, but Mr. Brooke-Taylor (Bainesse), stated that in some districts not only county councils but other local bodies were responsible for the weeds not being destroyed. He urged that all local bodies be made responsible not only for the destruction of noxious weeds, but for their removal. Mr. Morrison (Wlanganui) pointed out that this compulsion was already in force.
Some delegates claimed that a hardship was entailed on settlers who were forced to clear noxious weojds on the roaids along 'their property which had been deposited, there by travelling stock from another district. The remits were finally carried.
