IS ELEVEN LUCKY?

THAT ALL BLACK SCORE,

The score of eleven has been prominent in international Rugby, and its ajrpearanee in past games, especially in the initial matches of tours similar to that of the present All Blacks through the land of the Springbok, has given rise to the thought that it portends luck in future contests.

In 1921, the famous South African side, which toured this Dominion and left its shores on an equal footing with New Zealand in Rugby prowess, played its first game in "Wanganui, opening a successful tour with a score of 11 points to 6. It is significant too, that the great All Black side of 1924 commenced its tour of England, Ireland, Wales and France with a score of 11 to nil against Devon. Now, on the eve of the greatest Rugby struggle in history, the 1928 All Blacks have emerged from their first encounter with another eleven points up, and the reading of the cable news advising the fact will engender the hope that the figure will herald success for the 1928 tourists on a par with that of the famous team of four years ago, which ended a strenuous series of matches without defeat.
