ENTERTAINMENTS.

TOWN HALL. The last word in embarrassing moments is to have an ace of hearts found tucked up your sleeve just after you have taken in nearly every chip on the table in a big poker game. This delicate problem is said to be enacted most convincingly by Adolphe Menjou in “A Gentleman of Paris,” his new Paramount vehicle, which will be shown at the Town Hall Cabaret on Wednesday. Menjou’s role is that of injured innocence. He doesn’t know how the card got in his sleeve, but neither do any of his friends, and they feel that the only decent thing for him to do is to kill himself. Menjou retires to his room with a pistol, and when the pistol is exploded, the mystery of the hidden card is explained. Also “Wedding Wows” (Comedy), and News. Cabaret prices. iSally O’Neil will feature in “The Lovelorn” on Friday. ROYAL. Colleen Moore is adding to her army of followers by an appearance in golden curls and an entirely different type of role in “Twinkletoes,” at the Royal theatre on Wednesday. An excellent supporting cast depicts Thomas Burke’s picturesque characters of the Limehouse. Kenneth Harlan, Gladys Broekwell, Warner Oland, and Tully Marshall are featured. Besides the principals, an army of colorful Limehouse folk, of all races, types and pursuits, lend further atmosphere to the narrow, crooked streets and alleys and wharves of London’s famous waterfront district. The star never appeared to better advantage, nor in a more dramatic, gripping and colourful story, than in “Twinkletoes.” Her love for a Limehouse pugilist and for her father, her combination of innocence and sophistication, and her golden curls give us a new and doubly fascinating Colleen Moore. “Busy Lizzie” (Comedy), and Topical Budget. Prices 1/- everywhere, children 6d. “The Wolf's Trail” on Saturday next.
