BOXING.

HAY DEFEATS McKNIGHT. DEMONSTRATION BY CROWD. Auckland, Last Night. In the middle weight boxing match for a purse of £IOO between Artie Hay (Hastings) and Nelson McKnight (Hamilton), Hay was awarded the verdict on a knockout in the fourteenth round. A demonstration by the crowd followed, men rushing round the ring counting out the referee. Hay was well ahead on points but the crowd alleged the referee had been too hasty in counting McKnight out. McKnight interviewed later said there had been an unfortunate mistake and he would take the blame for it. He was quite strong and could have got up at three.

Nelson McKnight is matched to meet- Harry Casey for the middleweight title at Palmerston North on June 4th.
