FOXTON D.H. SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING. The first regular meeting of the committee since the householders meeting, was held last night, presided over by Mr. J. K. Hornblow (chairman). There were also present: Messrs D. Christie, Hutchins, Huntley, M. E. Perreau, John Ross, A. Stevenson, R. Rangiheuea (hou. sec.) and the head master (Mr. F. A. Mason). The chairman extended a welcome to Mr. D. Clirsitie, the only new member on the committee. He referred to the keen interest Mr. Christie had taken, as a citizen, in. school affairs, and the householders and committee were fortunate
in securing the services of such an enthusiastic citizen. Mr. Christie, in responding, said he had always been interested in the educational welfare of the children. He was not sure, however, whether his services were required as lie had been elected without the necessity for election. He approved of a contest for such an important position as by that means public interest was aroused in school affairs and a wider selection afforded householders. He would do his best to assist in profnoting the educational welfare of the children. 'Correspondence was read and received from the Education Board re the average cost per annum for water charges. The chairman said that the Borough Council’s charge was 1/- per 1000 gallons. The Board had applied to the Departs ment for a grant to meet such charges when charged to schools by local authorities. —'Secretary to send particulars. A vote of thanks were passed to Mr. J. S. Hornblow re High School badges. ■The action of the chairman and secretary in ordering a new disin-
fectant was endorsed. It was explained that a trial had been made with the liquid which (had proved very satisfactory. Its use would obviate the necessity for spreading disinjfeoted sawdust in the class-rooms and would effectively prevent the dust from rising and was a germ killer. The financial statement was submitted and accounts totalling £4O passed for payment. The Board’s proposals re improvements to the High School grounds were discussed. A complaint was made that the High School girl pupils were using Ihakara garden as a playground. This statement was refuted by the headmaster who said that the girls, walked through the gardens and used the seats for rest purposes, but no games were played outside the playing area. It was decided to allow the Beautifying Society to peruse the 2>lans of the proposed banking between the school and Ihakara Gar-, den. Other business of a routine nature was transacted.
