VALEDICTORY.

A combined farewell was given to Mrs MeMurray by the Plunket and Dorcas Societies and the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild yesterday afternoon, in the Presbyterian schoolroom. Mrs Iff Robinson (president of the Plunket Society) on behalf of the different societies, ■welcomed the guest, and expressed her pleasure at such a large and representative gathering. A programme of musical items and a competition was enjoyed, and after afternoon tea had been served, the Rev. W. H. Nicholas presented Mrs MeMurray with a bedroom clock on behalf of the Ladies’ Guild, and wished her and her family every success in their new home.

Mrs F. Robinson, on behalf of the Plunket and Dorcas Societies, presented the guest with a fumed oak dinner wagon and handbag, and expressed her personal regret and that of the societies at Mrs McMurray’s leaving the district. She felt sure that Foxton’s loss would be Feilding’s gain, and trusted that every success would be with them. The Mayor (Mr Perreau) said that it was a pleasure to be present in order to say a word of appreciation on behalf of the citizens, and to express how much they thought of the MeMurray family in their various spheres of public activity. The townspeople were indebted to both Mr and Mrs MeMurray since they had their home in Foxton. 'He regretted their leaving, but hoped they would be visitors to the town, and as such they would always receive a warm welcome. The Rev. Wj. H. Walton said he was very sorry to know that Mrs MeMurray and her family were leaving the district. Mrs McMurray’s work on the Dorcas Society had been most efficiently done, and the Society owed its success in a large measure to her energy and constant attention.

Mr W. Trueman also spoke of the good work done by Mrs MeMurray as secretary of the Plunket and Dofcas Societies. She had unstintingly given of her time, and deserved the thanks and appreciation of the community. „ Mrs MeMurray, in replying, thanked the speakers for their kind words of appreciation. She felt she did not deserve any recognition at all, for her work had been done because she liked doing it, and especially she felt she had not deserved in any way the present from the Ladies’ Guild, as she knew that she had not given anything like the service she ought to have done to her church. The presents would be reminders, if 1 she needed any, of the kind friends she had in Foxton. She thanked each and all for their kindness.

The competition was won by Mrs Perreau, and during the afternoon Mrs Yeo sang two solos. An apology for absence was received from Mr D. Christie.

Mrs J. Ross entertained teachers of the Presbyterian Sunday School and members of the Bible Class at a social evening last Thursday, at her residence. The evening was in honour of Miss Marjorie MeMurray, a senior Bible Class member, and also Sunday school teacher, and an enjoyable time was spent with games, music, etc. Before dispersing, Mr Nicholas expressed the sincere regret of all the teachers and Bible Class members at the departure of Miss MeMurray from Foxton, and on behalf of the teachers thanked her for the work she had so faithfully carried out, and wished her every happiisess and success in her new home. Mrs Ross endorsed Mr Nicholas’ remarks, and asked Marjorie to accept a small gift from the teachers as a memento and remembrance of her stay among them. The recipient suitably replied.
