CHARITY DAY APPEAL.
£240 DISTRIBUTED,
BY COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS.
At a of the Palmerston North branch of the Commercial Travellers’ Association held at Palmerston on Saturday morning the allocation of the funds raised by the public appeal on charity day was determined on the following, basis: — All Saints’ Home £IOO Willard Home £4O St. Vincent de Paul Society £3O Sisters of Mercy £3O Plunket Society £2O Unemployed Fund £2O In the afternoon a party of commercial travellers journeyed to Foxton to attend the birthday party of All Saints’ Children’s Home. The Association'* was represented by Messrs R. A. Metcalf (president), A. B. Hodgson (vice-president), and J. E. C. Brown (secretary). After having partaken of afternoon tea, the Rev. W. H. Walton, on behalf of the trustees of the Home, welcomed the members of the Association and congratulated them on tlreir fine work on behalf of charity.
Mr. 0. Monrad, speaking for the trustees, mentioned the fine spirit of the 'C.T.’s as a body of men and also congratulated them on their unstinted effort for charity. Mr. Metcalf , after presenting the trustees with their £IOO cheque, thanked them for the hearty welcome extended and pointed out that the. one thing that the C.T. organsiation stood for was charity and still more charity. Their whole aim as an association was to help those who could not help themselves. , “The Travellers feel,” said Mr. Metcalf, “that it is their duty to see that those who care for the orphan children of this district should have the wherewithal to carry on their noble work. The institution of a Charity Day at Palmerston North has given every man, woman and child an opportunity to help the needy.” Mr. Metcalf commended the good work so ably being carried out by the trustees of the Home, and in presenting them, on- behalf of the Palmerston North Commercial Travellers’ Association, a cheque fov £}oo, mentioned that it was part of the Charity Day fund which was now being disbursed.
11l accepting the cheque on behalf: of the trustees, Mr. 0. Monrad sincerely thanked the Commercial Travellers’ Association for their handsome gift. Mr. M. E. Perrenn, Mayor of Foxton, also spoke briefly.
