CAR FALLS INTO RIVER.

PASSENGER SERIOUSLY INJURED.

Gisborne, April 11. A motor car, containing four passengers in addition to the driver, went over a bank and into the river between Motu and Matawai last evening. One of the passengers, Mrs Wi Karata, received severe injuries. The car was driven by Douglas Emeny, and was conveying four Maori women from Waikato to Tolaga Bay. Shortly before reaching Matawai the visibility was bad owing to a mist. The car left the road and fell 50 feet down a bank into the river. Mrs Karata was pinned beneath the car in the river, and was extricated with considerable • difficulty.
