MANAWATU ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL REPORT.
The annual report of the Manawatu Ladies’ Hockey Association; reads, inter alia:— ; “Hockey in the Manawatn has maintained the standard of previous seasons. It is to be regretted, however, that a considerable loss was incurred over the New Zealand Ladies’ Hockey Association’s tournament which was held in Palmerston N. due to the following reasons: (1) Lack of support in procuring billets for visiting players; (2) inclement weather during the whole of the tournament week; (3) the three Rugby Ranfurly shield matches played while tournament was in progress; (4) the extra expenditure involved in providing accommodation for visiting players. There were 13 teams entered for the club competitions, seven Saturday and six Wednesday. The High School Old Girls are to be congratulated on winning both competitions, while Dannevirke Old Girls won the June 3rd five-a'-side tournament.
“The town v. country match was played, at Foxton and after a most even game, the country team proved to be the winners. The ladies’ representatives are to be congratulated on the winning of the Harper Cup and Shield and have successfully defended same against all challengers. At the New Zealand tournament two teams were entered, the A team being defeated in the section semi-final. To the Ruahine A team, who were the tourney winners, the association extended heartiest congratulations.”
