FAILURE TO DESTROY RABBITS.
COSTS FARMER £5. At the local S.M. Court yesterday, before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., A. H. Hobbs, of Ohakea, was charged by the Manawatu Rabbit Board with failing to exterminate rabbits on his .property. Mr. D. R. Barron (Inspector), conducted the case for the Board. The Inspector tendered evidence as to notices having been sent out to defendant and inspections made on December sth, January 11th, and 14th and March 6th. No work had been carried out to exterminate
the pest by defendant and the property was one of the worst infested he had inspected for many years. ; • Mr. Palmer, stock inspector, of Fending 1 , gave corroborative evidence in connection with a joint inspection made by himself and Inspector Barron on March Bth. Defendant in evidence, admitted that rabbits were fairly numerous , on his property, but attributed this to the fact that they had come on to his property from an adjoining farm, 'where no work had been carried out to exterminate them since last June. Personally he had put down a tin and three-quarters of pollard and used half a gallon of fumigating poison in burrows. The S.M. was of opinion that the work carried out by defendant was not sufficient and convicted and fined him £5 with costs £1 5s Od.
