TENNIS NOTES.

On Saturday last on the local courts, the various club competitions were brought to a successful conclusion. In the matches for the trophy donated by Mr. Nicholas for junior players, some excellent games Avere Avitnessed, Miss Joan Thynne defeating Miss Betty Hunt in the final, after a very close game. In the Rose Boavl competition, the spectators Avere treated to an excellent display by the semi-final-ists. In the first semi-final Miss Stevenson defeated Miss H. Owen, one of the junior players, while in the second game Miss Neylon defeated Miss Thompson. The final was a keenly fought game, in doubt right up to the last feAA T points. Miss Stevenson proved the winner of the Rose Bowl for the 1927-28 season. Her Avin was very popular. Previous Avinners of the Walton Rose Boavl are:—l92l-22 Mrs. MeMurray; 1922-23 Miss P. McMurray; 1923-24 Mrs. McMurray; 1924-25 Miss E. Owen; 1925-26 Miss E. Owen; 1926-27 Miss R, Perreau; 1927-28 Miss M. Stevenson.

The competition for the Men’s Cup provided no surprises. N. Ross and L. C. Bryant met in the top semi-final, Ross Avinning after a hard fought game. C. Procter and R. McMurray were the contestants in the bottom semi-final, a keenly fought game being won by C. Procter. The final provided a good exhibition .of the game, C. Procter Avinning by the harrow margin of eight points. The previous holders of the Men’s Cup are: —1921-22 L. C. Bryant; 1922-23 C. Procter; 1923-24 L. C. Bryant; 1924-25 N. Ross; 1925-26 C.
