BOWLING.
CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS ELIMINATION ROUNDS.
A WIN FOR FOXTON CLUB.
The ManawatuCentre Executive decided this season to group the clubs within its area into four sections, in order to simplify the Champion of Champions rinks contest. Foxton, Levin, Shannon and Otaki Clubs were placed in Section C. each Club to be represented by one rink in an elimination round of one game each, on the sudden death principle. It was agreed among the clubs concerned that Levin play Foxton, and Otaki play Shannon, both games on neutral greens. ~ Yesterday Foxton met Levin on Shannon ground, when an exciting finish was witnesed, Foxton winning by the narrow margin of one point on the twenty-second head, scores being even on the twenty-first. From the commencement Foxton proceeded to score, compiling 14 against Levin’s 2 by the completion of the sixth head. As often happens, however, the resumption after the afternoon tea adjournment saw a reversal in the order of scoring, and Levin began to make up leeway, the eighteenth head showing' honours even with both scores at J 9. Then Foxton notched a three, Levin following with a two and a single, leaving the scores again even —22 all—on the completion of the twen-ty-ifirst head. Interest ran high, and keen play characterised the finishing heads. However, Levin lay shot when the skips went up to play on the extra head, and’Clements failed to add with his first bowl. Barr drew a nice one with his first ball. Clements again failed, thus leaving Foxton winners by a bare margin, after a strenuous fight. The details are: — Foxton: Walton, Heyes, Huntley, Barr (s) 23; Monks, Percy, Bull, P. Clements (s) 22.
Shannon plays Otaki at Levin on Saturday. e
The final round of the Triangul: r Shield contest will be played at Shannon on Wednesday, the 14th inst.
A Foxton rink will visit Levin on Saturday of this week to try conclusions with the holders of the Kinneberg Feathers.
